Life was a kaleidoscope of excitement and joy, pain and sorrow

In three words, I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life. IT GOES ON!

Yesterday, today and tomorrow October 24, 2009

23rd October 2009 (yesterday):

  1. While discussing the presentation on why the anti-muscarinic drugs are considered unsuitable for elderly patients with idiopathic Parkinson’s Disease with my fellow group of coursemates in the canteen, I accidentally spilled Miss Coral’s coffee on Mr. Singh’s book (he sat in front of me and so happened to put his book on the table). After getting a new book for him, I have to re-highlight and re-copy all the extra notes for him into his new book.
  2. After taking the same 198 bus from school back to home with Mr. M. for about 1 and a half years, we talked and sit together FOR THE FIRST TIME throughout the WHOLE journey! Mr. M. is the quietest guy I have ever met. And HE is the one who talked to me FIRST!
  3. Suddenly addicted to this song: Tonight, I celebrate my love for you (by Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack).
  4. Slept at around 3 a.m., thinking of the million to-do-lists. The HIGHLY IMPORTANT to-do-list that I MUST get it done by next week is to go to the post office to find out the package that my friend sent to me from Malaysia 1 month ago and I still haven’t receive it yet!!!

24th October 2009 (today):

  1. Woke up at around 5 a.m. because my landlord’s family has already started to prepare for the wedding. It’s Judy’s wedding today. Judy is the youngest daughter of my landlord. Helped around in the kitchen; mainly serving food and washing up plates and cups. Finally went to the church by travelling in Grace’s car. Grace is Judy’s eldest sister. She and her husband (John) are very friendly. Richard and Jean, Judy’s elder brother and sister-in-law are quieter though. Felt very sleepy while sitting in the church because of the cold air-conditioner and soothing songs. After the reception, took 157 bus home with Lidia. Lidia is the tenant who stays in one of the room downstairs. Upon reaching home, we started cleaning up; putting leftover food into the fridge, washing the plates and cups and sweep the floor as well. My landlord finally came back and asked me to help to change the curtain in Judy’s room. Dead tired by the time I finally removed my make-up and bath.
  2. Still addicted to the song: Tonight, I celebrate my love for you.
  3. MUST watch the Korean drama, Boys Over Flower final 30 minutes episode tonight on Channel U, though I have the whole drama in my laptop.

25th October 2009 (tomorrow):

  1. Have to wake up early tomorrow morning because have to travel to Woodlands Library. I promised Miss Chew to study with her. MUST start to study SERIOUSLY on the Physiological, Regulation & Control (PRC) subject!!!
  2. Should be still addicted to the song: Tonight, I celebrate my love for you.

Pee-ka-boo October 17, 2009

I haven’t been online for one whole week as my landlord them all have changed the wireless port and brodband last week. I don’t really understand the new package, as it consists of dunno-what-MIO-TV-thingy. All I know is that this port is like a super-multi-task-port, where it provides lots of other new channels for the television and at the same time provide the broadband. Anyway, there’s something wrong with the setting up because my laptop can’t seem to detect its signal. So, my landlord’s daughter, Judy is going to call the technician and fix this problem next week. She is only free next week as she will be on leave starting next week to prepare for her wedding which is on next Saturday.

The main reason for this post is not for me lament the how-pathetic-and-pitiful-situation-I’m-currently-in-because-can’t-online-for-one-whole-week. Come to think of it, I think someone should award me a Noble Prize or something for this one-week-abstinence-thingy! Anyway, I wanted to share a picture with everyone here.

Guess what? I think that guy wearing a red T-shirt looks a lot like my friend, Mr Elw**n. I don’t wish to put his full name in it, in case he sue me with plagiarism or defamation or whatever he can think of, but I think he know who I’m talking about.

This picture was taken by me while travelling in the MRT in the morning. As you know, I’m not the only one person travelling in MRT and I have to pretend I was typing a message using my phone in order to secretly take this photo. The aunty sitting opposite me was giving me suspicious and strange look throughout the whole journey. If I don’t alight at the station earlier than hers, I’m sure she is going to call the police and insist the policemen to send me to asylum.

This is actually a song written by a Malaysian composer. I first listened to this song was in the car, with my family members during the eve of Chinese New Year 3 years ago. I have been searching for this song for the past 3 years and unfortunately still couldn’t find it. It took me 3 years as well just to find the lyrics. Anyway, I really like the lyrics in this song. Its very meaningful and left a great impression on me. Whenever I think of this song, I will have an urge to appreciate my family even more!

但願人長久 September 30, 2009

Every year when the Mid-autumn festival is drawing nearer and nearer, my brain will automatically have this song playing again and again, non-stop for 24 hours. I seriously have no idea why my brain is behaving like this. From what I know, this song is actually an ancient Chinese poem. Though I can only read about 50% of all the Chinese characters in this poem and I depend largely on the “han yu pin yin” for the rest of the characters, I still love this song very much, especially the soft, mesmerizing music. It made me feel as if I am floating on a cloud.

明月幾時有 Ming yue ji shi you
把酒問青天 Ba jiu wen qing tian
不知天上宮闕 Bu zhi tian shang gong que
今夕是何年 Jin xi shi he nian

我欲乘風歸去 Wo yu cheng feng gui qu
唯恐瓊樓玉宇 Wei kong qiong lou yu yu
高處不勝寒 Gao chu bu sheng han
起舞弄清影 Qi wu nong qing ying
何似在人間 He si zai ren jian

轉朱閣 Zhuan zhu ge
低綺戶 Di yi hu
照無眠 Zhao wu mian
不應有恨 Bu ying you hen
何事長向別時圓 (月時圓)He shi chang xiang bie shi yuan (yue shi yuan)

人有悲歡離合 Ren you bei huan li he
月有陰晴圓缺 Yue you yin qing yuan que
此事古難全 Ci shi gu nan quan
但願人長久 Dan yuan ren chang jiu
千里共嬋娟 Qian li gong chan juan

Mid-autumn festival is coming in 3 days time. I remember vividly that I spent last year Mid-autumn festival at the Chinese Garden Lantern Festival. However, it seems that there will not be any Lantern Festival being held at the Chinese Garden this year, so I was still contemplating whether want to go back home or not since this year Mid-autumn festival is on Saturday.

Just my luck September 21, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — tseling @ 3:34 pm

After last Monday disastrous event with my-leaving-my-handphone-at-home and the-Mcdonald’s-spilled-drink-event, I really thought that my luck has somewhat regain its normal level again. However, something eventful happened to me last Friday.

As usual, I take the 198 bus to school last Friday like any normal day. It usually takes me 30 – 45 minutes to get to school, depending on the flow of traffic. As we were approaching the opposite of National University Hospital (NUH), the bus stopped for quite some time. I guess the bus stop at the front there must be having lots of people queueing to board some other buses in front of our bus.

However, things started to get weird because no matter how many people are there in a bus stop, the bus will never stop for more than 15 minutes. I mean from the time the bus open its door to the time for the last passenger to board the bus, it will never take that more than 10 minutes. Things get even weirder when the police arrived. So, I thought there must be some kind of accident, which block our way.

Some passengers in the bus alighted because they are getting very frustrated with all the waiting and such. The bus still move a few micrometers every few minutes. Traffic is getting heavier and I was wondering what the hell is going on outside there. Then, the bus finally move a few more inches and I saw a tree had fallen down (must be because the rain earlier) and its blocking the road which turns left and lead us to the North & South Buona Vista road. The tree blocked the whole road and we must turn into that road!

The bus driver informed us that we can alight here if we want or we can wait in the bus. The problem is that the police also don’t know how long it will take to remove the tree. For all we know, it might take 2 hours. So, I sit in the bus and continue reading my book. Even if I alight from the bus, I either have to wait for the next 198 bus to come, which is totally useless because the next 198 bus will have to wait for the tree to be move to somewhere else too, or walk to the next bus stop, which is useless too because there are no other buses at the next bus stop which will directly send me to school.

After waited for like half an hour, the bus driver finally decided to stop waiting and drive straight ahead. I honestly dunno where is he taking us to. I overheard a middle-age women telling the 2 Indian women that the bus driver is going to make a U-turn and turned into the overhead bridge linking to the North & South Buona Vista road. True enough, the bus driver did make a U-turn and turned into the overhead bridge. The main problem is this U-turn was a 30 minutes U-turn because the U-turn is so bloody faraway and the whole road was filled with cars, cars, and nothing but cars!

I finally made it to school after 1 hour 45 minutes journey in the bus. I am never going to take bus to school during rainy days again. Never! Actually, I don’t wish for a super-lucky kind of luck, I just want my normal luck back so that I can lead my normal life again. I just want a peaceful and normal life. That’s all I ask for.

14/9/2009 – The unluckiest day in my entire life September 16, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — tseling @ 12:28 pm

14/9/2009 was indeed a very unlucky day for me. That faithful day was Monday. After having ‘Bak Kut Teh’ as breakfast and lunch with my parents, they sent me off to the bus station for me to catch a bus back to Singapore. I sat comfortably on the KKKL bus seat and I was about to take my handphone out to listen to songs when I realized that I have left my phone at home!!! Oh shit! I was thinking furiously what the hell am I suppose to do when the bus started to drive off. Now I really can’t get off the bus.

I had no choice but to sit on the bus and calm myself down. I decided to just leave my phone at home, find a public phone to phone my mom when I reached Singapore and ask my classmates whoever have an extra phone to lend me later during the lecture. Fortunately, I have the Singtel SIM card with me, just that I don’t have a phone.

After I reached Singapore, I was searching high and low for a public phone at the Kranji MRT station. As predicted, I can’t find a public phone there. So, I travelled down to Jurong East MRT station and I knew there are a few public phones at the convenience store at the side of the Jurong East bus interchange. I found the public phones, and I put in $1.00 into the slot. Now came the next problem. As I have to call my mom handphone, and its a so-called international phone call, I’m not sure what button should I press. I knew the international code for Malaysia is 60. However, when I used to call my mom using my handphone, I always put +60 at the front, before the phone number. The thing with public phone is they don’t provide me with + button.

One good thing about Singapore is they provide you with every single instruction signboards of whatever things that you want to operate with. So, I followed the intructions signboard on the public phone. It says “Press 020 for making Malaysia call”, so I punch in 020 and followed by my mom’s handphone number. A few seconds later, it says “Wrong number”. I tried a few more times and the result is still the same. So, I decided to try the next public phones. There weare 3 phones there. And guess what, all 3 of them are triplets. They all gave me the stupid “Wrong number”!

It was a very hot and sunny day. I was sweating like nobody business, and I was very desperate to call my mom. Fine. I give up and take bus 334 to go home. I saw 2 public phones down at my block there and decided to try it. One of it looks very new and the other is a totally opposite of the first one. I tried on the new one.

As usual, I read and followed the instructions on the signboard to make an international call. I punched in the number and thank God, I finally made it. I told my mom that I have safely arrive at Singapore and my mom informed me that I have left my phone at home. I said I know, and my mom asked me what am I going to do? So, I told her that I will borrow a phone from my classmates later when I meet them for lecture (some of my classmates bought a new phone and they will keep the old phone at home).

And the good thing is I will go back home in another 2 weeks time. I managed to borrow a phone from my classmate, Miss Weng. Thank God she has 2 phones. And this phone that I borrow can be considered as quite a new phone. I’m still not use to it because its touch screen. Anyway, I’m really grateful to Miss Weng for being so kind. She is my savior!

After the handphone disaster, I had my dinner at Mcdonald. After I placed my order and the waitress put all the require food on the tray, I take the tray to the side counter/cupboard. The Mcdonalds in Singapore is slightly different from the Mcdonalds in Malaysia.

The Mcdonalds in Singapore put the straws, napkins, chillies, ketchup, salts and all that kind of stuff at a small table off the counter. So, after we get our food, we’ll need to proceed to the table to take straws, napkins and chillies.

I brought my try of food to the small table and put it at the very side of the table since there is not much space left. I took the napkins and straw, and dunno what happened, my tray suddenly become unbalanced and my cup of Jasmine Green Tea spilled out! All of it spilled out! Most of the liquid spilled on the floor while some remain on the table. So, I quickly took some napkins and wipe the liquid that remains on the table.

After wiping it, I took my chillies and find a table. I sat down and enjoyed my meal with a very down feeling. I spilled my drink, so I was very embarrassed to ask the waitress to re-fill my drink. Instead, I just let it be and sadly eat my McSpicy.

Taiwan mooncake September 8, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — tseling @ 6:31 pm

I was back at home for the weekend 2 weeks ago and was fortunate enough to taste the Taiwan mooncake that my sister bought at K.L.. The mooncake doesn’t look like a mooncake at all. The appearance is totally different from the original and traditional mooncake that we used to see since young till now. My first thought when I opened the box of mooncake and saw the content was, “Wow, is this cake or what?” Those mooncakes look more like cake.

Not only the appearance is different, the filling in the mooncake is also different. I thought the filling will be like those lotus paste or whatever paste filling found in the normal and traditional mooncake. However, the filling of the Taiwan mooncake was more like cream. Yeah, more like ice-cream! And there is even some small cut fruit in between the cream.

Anyway, the Taiwan mooncake is beyond delicious! It is so special that I can’t even find other word to describe it. Of course, the price is not that cheap for something so special. Nothing is free in this world anyway.

Another near-death experiences with insects September 2, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — tseling @ 5:59 am

I think most of you should know by now that I’m extremely scare of insects. Even butterfly is not excluded. Actually I was experiencing a near-death experiences just the other day with a cockcroach.

I was going into the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face before heading to bed at around 2 a.m. (it’s my normal sleeping time). There was a rack next to the basin for my landlady and her daughter to put their facial products and contact len’s solution. As I was leaning down to turn on the tap, I saw a dirty, obscene, horrendous, horrifying cockcroach at the one of the facial product on the rack.

I leap back immediately and within a few nanoseconds, I head out of the bathroom taking my toohbrush, toothpaste and cleanser with me to the downstairs smaller bathroom. Thank God I manage not to let out my banshee screaming when I saw that cockcroach. It was roughly 2 a.m. at that time, and if I were to scream, I think the whole block will hear it.

I seriously going to kill all the insects available in this world soon.
